Description
Marionberry Floricane Thorny was released by G.F. Waldo (USDA-ARS) in Corvallis, Oregon in 1956. Soon it became very popular for its special flavor and health benefits- higher vitamin level. It is a cross between Chehalem and Olallie (a cross between Loganberry and Youngberry). It still contains 44% Rubus ursinus (native to Oregon). It is a thorny very vigorous trailing vine that harvests in July (depending on your hardiness zone) and longer picking season and needs a 2-wire trellis. Very valuable for homemade jam, jelly, and juice which are popular all over the world.

Lazarus Marionberry!
This arrived to me as a strong roots system with a few scraggly leaves. Long story short- a pet tore up the roots while burying something. The roots were truly shredded and I thought they were goners. I planned to just order another one but life got busy and I forgot. A few weeks later I saw that the attractive Marionberry leaves were flourishing, and the plant was back with a vengeance. I intend to buy these as gifts for my other zone10a/10b friends, especially those who struggle to grow berries. This is the plant that won't quit.
